Thinking About Different Bulging Disc Treatment Alternatives

I was talking to a friend the other day about the possibility of getting a bulging disc treatment for our friend when an eavesdropper started laughing and started making comments on how dumb we were about the disc problem. My friend and I were wide eyed in disbelief when that stranger showed his expertise on how to deal with damaged or bulging discs. The bulging discs he was talking about had nothing to do with the condition of the spine. Instead, he was talking about computer discs. Well, as they say, nothing good in eavesdropping. The whole incident made my day. I didn’t stop laughing every time I thought about it.

To explain a few things, the spinal discs are a sort of shock absorber of the spine. The spine is made up of a series of vertebrae which are hollow bones which protect the spinal cord inside its cavity. The spine of the human is also the most manoeuvrable compared to other mammals and this manoeuvrability is because of the discs. These discs are a gel like material and its nucleus can get inflamed causing it to press against the outer wall of the said disc. This herniation, or bulge, will cause the nerves irritation and this can cause pain and discomfort. Pain can be corrected with the right bulging disc treatment when diagnosed.

Symptoms can range from pain to weakness and this pain can sometimes be mistaken for simple back pain. When the situation worsens, patients go see a doctor and they get surprised when they have to go through an imaging procedure like an MRI or a CT scan. As imaging is the only true way to diagnose a bulging disc, then going through one will have to be endured.

When the scans eventually show how severe the bulge is, then a thorough discussion with the physician for alternative bulging disc treatment. Some immediately think surgery and are quite surprised when their physicians tell them that surgery is not necessary. There are medications which can lower the pain and decrease whatever inflammation present. Ibuprofen or even aspirin can be taken under direct supervision of the doctor. With the medication, rest and minimal movement can be taken. But be careful of too much rest, there is such a thing as a frozen back, a lay man’s term where there was too much rest taken and the immobility only worsened the symptoms.

There are people who do not like the thought of taking drugs for the treatment, even if they are just NSAIDs. Some cases have been made public where the patient depended too much on the medication that even if there was not more pain, the drugs were taken even just to relieve psychological problems. The addiction or the dependence on these drugs are a high possibility, hence the direct supervision of the doctor.

There are some situations where the bulging disc treatment fails and the condition worsens and the pain can get to the point of hell on earth. With that type of pain, the only recourse would be surgery and this is something which should be thoroughly discussed. It risks are present, but sometimes the pain is too much that the patient will just close their eyes against other bulging disc treatment alternatives and just plead for the knife.
